updated 7:57 p.m. ET Nov. 29, 2012

CHICAGO (AP) - Former U.S. women's national team general manager Cheryl Bailey will serve as the executive director of the new U.S. Soccer-led women's league that will begin play next year.

U.S. Soccer President Sunil Gulati announced the appointment Thursday.

"Cheryl was a highly regarded employee for U.S. Soccer during her time with the women's national team and she has the perfect skill set and experience to help get this league up and running," Gulati said.

Bailey was the general manager of the U.S. women's national team from 2007-2011.

"It was a wonderful experience to be a part of the women's national team for five years and see firsthand the impact that women's soccer players can have as role models," Bailey said. "The new league is another extension of that and a vitally important part of the continued growth of the sport in the United States."

The eight-team league will have teams in Boston, Chicago, New Jersey, Portland, Seattle, Kansas City, western New York and Washington.

Syria Just Fell Off the Face of the Internet: Sudden Nationwide ...

The AP is now reporting that Syria has dropped off the Internet as the government imposed a blackout over the entire nation?s critical communications from Internet to cellphones services (in select areas.) Thursday, rebels and government troops are engaged in warfare in the streets that have even strayed near the capital?s airport?suspending air traffic for the time being as well.

The outage in Syria has been confirmed by multiple sources, including Akamai Technologies Inc., a well known Internet data distributor who constantly monitor networks in order to get the best bandwith for their customers delivery. Renesys, another US-based network security firm, also confirmed stating that Syria effectively vanished Thursday at 12:26 p.m. local time.

?In the global routing table, all 84 of Syria?s IP address blocks have become unreachable, effectively removing the country from the Internet,? Renesys said.

Also according to Renesys, there are a few live Syrian networks, all of which belong to Tata Communications:

?These are potentially offshore, rather than domestic, and perhaps not subject to whatever killswitch was thrown today within Syria. These five offshore survivors include the webservers that were implicated in the delivery of malware targeting Syrian activists in May of this year,? writes the company.

State Controlled Killswitches Part of Warfare

We?ve seen the use of a killswitch before to cut off internal communication to local populations used before by countries seeking to control their territory.

In January 2011, Egypt used a killswitch to cut off communications over their Internet during the popular uprisings. The act led to a massive loss of data from the state and a return to oldschool journalism and communication (those without the Internet) although information still flowed out of and into the state.

Libya suffered under a six-month blackout imposed by their government in 2011 as well, restored in August of that year. The?Libyan?government had cut off the Internet in their own country due to a very similar reason to Egypt?s blackout: to control and pacify rebels fighting in their streets.

The World Watches the Darkened Syria

Even with cell service and Internet cut, there are still telephone cables running in and out of Syria and activists have gone to those in order to maintain communication with the outside world. Also, there?s no news that the Syrian government is jamming radio or satellite communications. It will be even harder than before to be part of the global community for local residents; but many of them probably have a lot more to worry about with fighting outside their doors.

Cutting off an entire country from the Internet and the rest of the world at large feels like a heavy door shutting. It throws news and communication to that country back to pre-1990 levels of newsmaking and renders the populations cut off from the rest of the globe. Fortunately, the Internet is a brand new medium for communication and news delivery and wartime journalism hasn?t changed that much (after all news got out during World War II.)

We?ll be watching to see how groups such as Anonymous and others respond to this. In the past, they have reacted by hitting government websites or financial institutions owned by the states in question; however, without the Internet flowing to them, those institutions lack their fundamental vulnerability to hackers (and they?re already without communication anyway.)

We also expect that groups such as Anonymous might become distributors of information into and out of Syria, including information on how activists and people can get news out as they have done in the past.

(PHILADELPHIA) Cancer and stress go hand-in-hand, and high stress levels can lead to poorer health outcomes in cancer patients. The Jefferson-Myrna Brind Center of Integrative Medicine combined creative art therapy with a Mindfulness-based Stress Reduction (MBSR) program for women with breast cancer and showed changes in brain activity associated with lower stress and anxiety after the eight-week program. Their new study appears in the December issue of the journal Stress and Health.

Daniel Monti, MD, director of the Jefferson-Myrna Brind Center of Integrative Medicine and lead author on the study, and colleagues have previously published on the success of Mindfulness-based Art Therapy (MBAT) at helping cancer patients lower stress levels and improve quality of life.

"Our goal was to observe possible mechanisms for the observed psychosocial effects of MBAT by evaluating the cerebral blood flow (CBF) changes associated with an MBAT intervention in comparison with a control of equal time and attention," says Monti. "This type of expressive art and meditation program has never before been studied for physiological impact and the correlation of that impact to improvements in stress and anxiety."

Eighteen patients were randomly assigned to the MBAT program or an education program control group. All had received the diagnosis of breast cancer between six months and three years prior to enrollment and were not in active treatment. The MBAT group consisted of the MBSR curriculum (awareness of breathing, awareness of emotion, mindful yoga, walking, eating and listening), paired with expressive art tasks to provide opportunities for self-expression, facilitate coping strategies, improve self-regulation, and provide a way for participants to express emotional information in a personally meaningful manner.

Patient response to the MBAT program was measured using a 90-item symptom checklist, completed by each patient before and after the eight-week program. In addition, functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) was used pre and post-program to evaluate cerebral blood flow, corresponding to changes in the brain's activity. Scans were performed at rest, during a "neutral task" (control), meditation task, stressor task and at rest againdesigned to evaluate the general as well as specific effects and provide a thorough analysis of the CBF changes between the pre and post-program scans.

Participants in the MBAT group demonstrated significant effects on cerebral blood flow compared with the control group. The MBAT group showed increases in the emotional centers of the brain including the left insula which helps us to perceive our emotions, the amygdala which helps us experience stress, the hippocampus that regulates stress responses, and the caudate nucleus that is part of our brain's reward system. These increases correlated significantly with a lowering of stress and anxiety, as also reflected in the results of the pre and post-program anxiety scores among the MBAT intervention group.

The observed psychological and neuropsychological changes are consistent with current literature that states that MBSR interventions have shown to reduce anxiety, depression and psychological distress in a variety of populations. These have been associated with improved immune function, quality of life and coping effectiveness in women with breast cancer.

Given the improvements in anxiety levels and observed changes in CBF in the MBAT participants, these findings suggest that the MBAT program helps mediate emotional responses in women with breast cancer. "With the sample size enlarged, perhaps we can extrapolate these results to other disease populations and gain a fuller understanding of the physiological mechanisms by which mindfulness practices confer psychological benefits," says Monti.

Fish ear bones point to climate impacts

ScienceDaily (Nov. 27, 2012) ? The earbones, or 'otoliths', help fish to detect movement and to orient themselves in the water. Otoliths set down annual growth rings that can be measured and counted to estimate the age and growth rates of fish.

"Otoliths can form the basis of new techniques for modelling fish growth, productivity and distribution in future environments," said Dr John Morrongiello of CSIRO's Wealth from Oceans Flagship, lead author of a paper published online in Nature Climate Change November 28.

"They are widely used to support fishery stock assessments, and are beginning to be used to measure and predict ecological responses to ocean warming and climate change.

"Any change identified in growth and age maturity, especially of commercially-important species, clearly has implications for forecasting future stock states and the sustainable management of fisheries."

Dr Ron Thresher, CSIRO Marine and Atmospheric Research

"Millions of otoliths are archived in research laboratories and museums worldwide, and many fish species live for decades and some, such as orange roughy, live for up to 150 years.

"Their otoliths record variations in growth rates that reflect environmental conditions. Longer-lived fish and older samples take us back as far as the 1800s."

The paper, co-authored by Dr Ron Thresher and Dr David Smith of CSIRO, builds on earlier research by Dr Thresher that identified the potential of using fish 'hard parts', (such as otoliths), and deep ocean corals to understand environmental change. It outlines a framework in which Australian research institutions can analyse hard parts and assess past and future impacts on a range of species.

In the next research phase, scientists at CSIRO, the Australian Institute of Marine Science and the University of Adelaide will study selected species of commercial interest, including tiger flathead, black bream, blue gropers, barramundi and tropical snappers.

"We will use otoliths to investigate the environmental drivers of fish growth for many species around Australia," Dr Morrongiello said.

"This will allow us to generate a continental-scale evaluation of climate change impacts on Australia's fishes and help to guide the conservation and management of our aquatic environments into the future."

Dr Thresher said there had already been extensive use of hard part archives from corals to reflect on climate variability, such as El Ni?o events, and to reconstruct environmental histories.

"Any change identified in growth and age maturity, especially of commercially-important species, clearly has implications for forecasting future stock states and the sustainable management of fisheries," Dr Thresher said.

"A better ability to predict such change will greatly enhance our ability to forecast, manage and adapt to the impacts of climate change in marine and freshwater systems."

BENTONVILLE, Ark. (AP) ? A neighbor has been arrested as a suspect in the killing of a 6-year-old Arkansas girl whose high-profile child abuse case last year sent her father and stepmother to prison, police said.

Jersey Bridgeman was reported missing the morning of Nov. 20. Minutes after a search for her began, Jersey's body was discovered in an abandoned house two doors from her home in Bentonville.

Zachary Holly, 28, who lives next door to where Jersey was staying, is being held in the Benton County Jail on charges of capital murder, kidnapping and residential burglary, police Chief Jon Simpson said Monday night.

Simpson said Holly will have a bail and probable cause hearing Wednesday, during which a probable cause affidavit will be released. At that point, "many questions related to this investigation and arrest will be answered," Simpson said.

He did not release details of how Jersey died or what led police to Holly. Simpson said work by the State Crime Lab helped speed the arrest.

Jersey's short life was checkered with discomfort. About a year before her death, her father and stepmother were charged with abuse after investigators discovered they had chained her to a dresser to stop her wandering around the house at night. David Bridgeman, Jersey's father, told investigators he restrained his daughter to prevent her from getting into medication and other things around the house.

David and Jana Bridgeman, Jersey's stepmother, pleaded guilty in June to false imprisonment, permitting abuse of a minor and endangering the welfare of a minor.

Jana Bridgeman is serving a 12-year prison sentence, plus three years for a probation revocation. David Bridgeman is serving an 18-year prison sentence.

Police Capt. Justin Thompson said there was "no reason ... for the community to be worried at this point," but otherwise revealed little more about the homicide investigation in Bentonville some 215 miles northwest of Little Rock.

Thompson said the girl died sometime between midnight and 6:53 a.m. on the day her body was found. He would not say who called 911 to report her missing. Investigators later searched the home where she lived and the house where her body was found, as well as the homes in between.

A funeral for Jersey is set for 1 p.m. Tuesday at Rogers Funeral Home in Rogers.

Steelers hope to have Polamalu back for Ravens

PITTSBURGH (AP) ? Ben Roethlisberger took a break from changing his newborn son's diapers to throw a few passes with his sprained right shoulder on Monday.

The Pittsburgh Steelers saw enough to ask their franchise quarterback to throw a few more over the next few days, hoping he can recover in time to salvage a season in danger of slipping through their fingers.

Calling the session "a step in the right direction," coach Mike Tomlin said Tuesday there's "a chance" Roethlisberger could play on Sunday in Baltimore.

"We'll leave the door open," Tomlin said.

Or maybe just closed, but not locked.

Roethlisberger hasn't played since getting slammed to the turf in the third quarter of a 16-13 overtime victory over Kansas City on Nov. 12, suffering a sprained right shoulder and dislocated rib. He's spent time welcoming his son Ben Jr. ? born last Wednesday ? and watching his team lose consecutive games for the first time in three years while managing two offensive touchdowns in 10 quarters of work.

The nadir ? Pittsburgh hopes ? came in an eight-turnover, almost comically bad 20-14 loss to Cleveland last Sunday that left the Steelers at 6-5 and heading in the wrong direction as December begins.

"It's quite amazing that you only lose by six," Tomlin said, "when you provide that type of leg up to the opponent."

One the Steelers hope to avoid even if backup Charlie Batch makes his second straight start. Though Roethlisberger appears to be a long shot at best, there's a chance a few familiar faces could be in uniform against the Ravens (9-2), who could wrap up the AFC North title with a win over the Steelers and a Cincinnati Bengals loss.

Safety Troy Polamalu and wide receiver Antonio Brown could both play Sunday. Polamalu has been limited to just five quarters all season due to a right calf injury, though Tomlin said he's "encouraged" by Polamalu's progress.

Brown hasn't played since injuring his ankle in a 24-20 win over the New York Giants on Nov. 4, and Pittsburgh's receivers have struggled in his absence. Mike Wallace, a Pro Bowler a year ago, had just one catch against the Browns and couldn't hold onto a pass that turned into one of Batch's three interceptions.

Tomlin allowed Wallace is struggling and there's a possible demotion in the works. Wallace has started 41 of Pittsburgh's last 43 games, but the team listed as either Wallace or Emmanuel Sanders as the starter alongside Brown in the depth chart released Tuesday.

"Mike is frustrated and rightfully so," Tomlin said. "He's not producing like we'd like him to and he'd like to."

Neither is the running game, though the Steelers have settled on Jonathan Dwyer as a starter after unsuccessfully rotating Dwyer, Rashard Mendenhall and Isaac Redman the last two weeks.

The trio managed just 32 yards on 15 carries ? and three fumbles ? in Cleveland, but the job is Dwyer's to lose based on his steady (by comparison) performance this season. Dwyer has two of Pittsburgh's three 100-yard games this year.

"We've been working under less than ideal circumstances shuffling those guys due to injury and lack of production," Tomlin said. "But he's healthy and most productive. He will get the bulk of the carries."

Even if he'll have to do it behind an offensive line so decimated by injuries that rookie Kelvin Beachum will start at right tackle against the Ravens after Mike Adams went down with a sprained ankle and starter Marcus Gilbert was placed on injured reserve Monday after his bum ankle failed to "perk up" despite nearly two months of treatment.

The Steelers activated first-round pick David DeCastro on Monday, but it's unlikely the rookie right guard will be ready to play after just a handful of practices.

Not exactly the way the Steelers wanted to start December, though the players are hardly interested in excuses. They know they're not alone in shuffling lineups in search of healthy bodies.

"You can't count on guys who you don't know if they're going to be there or not," nose tackle Casey Hampton said. "We have a good enough football team to win those types of games and we have to do it."

Tomlin remains optimistic Batch can shake off his spotty play against the Browns to lead the Steelers to just their third win in Baltimore in their last 10 trips. There are no plans to go to recently signed Brian Hoyer.

"Charlie is our quarterback," Tomlin said.

Just, the Steelers hope, for not much longer.

NOTES: LB LaMarr Woodley (sprained ankle) is doubtful for the Ravens. He will be replaced by Jason Worilds if he can't play ... WR Jerricho Cotchery fractured ribs) ran on Monday and will participate in practice this week.

Protesters pack Tahrir Square, challenge Morsi

CAIRO (AP) ? The same chants used against Hosni Mubarak were turned against his successor Tuesday as more than 200,000 people packed Egypt's Tahrir Square in the biggest challenge yet to Islamist President Mohammed Morsi.

The massive, flag-waving throng protesting Morsi's assertion of near-absolute powers rivaled some of the largest crowds that helped drive Mubarak from office last year.

"The people want to bring down the regime!" and "erhal, erhal" ? Arabic for "leave, leave" ? rang out across the plaza, this time directed at Egypt's first freely elected president.

The protests were sparked by edicts Morsi issued last week that effectively neutralize the judiciary, the last branch of government he does not control. But they turned into a broader outpouring of anger against Morsi and his Muslim Brotherhood, which opponents say have used election victories to monopolize power, squeeze out rivals and dictate a new, Islamist constitution, while doing little to solve Egypt's mounting economic and security woes.

Clashes broke out in several cities, with Morsi's opponents attacking Brotherhood offices, setting fire to at least one. Protesters and Brotherhood members pelted each other with stones and firebombs in the Nile Delta city of Mahalla el-Kobra, leaving at least 100 people injured.

"Power has exposed the Brotherhood. We discovered their true face," said Laila Salah, a housewife at the Tahrir protest who said she voted for Morsi in last summer's presidential election. After Mubarak, she said, Egyptians would no longer accept being ruled by an autocrat.

"It's like a wife whose husband was beating her and then she divorces him and becomes free," she said. "If she remarries she'll never accept another day of abuse."

Gehad el-Haddad, a senior adviser to the Brotherhood and its political party, said Morsi would not back down on his edicts. "We are not rescinding the declaration," he told The Associated Press.

That sets the stage for a drawn-out battle that could throw the nation into greater turmoil. Protest organizers have called for another mass rally Friday. If the Brotherhood responds with demonstrations of its own, as some of its leaders have hinted, it would raise the prospect of greater violence after a series of clashes between the two camps in recent days.

A tweet by the Brotherhood warned that if the opposition was able to bring out 200,000 to 300,000, "they should brace for millions in support" of Morsi.

Another flashpoint could come Sunday, when the constitutional court is to rule on whether to dissolve the assembly writing the new constitution, which is dominated by the Brotherhood and its Islamist allies. Morsi's edicts ban the courts from disbanding the panel; if the court defies him and rules anyway, it would be a direct challenge that could spill over into the streets.

"Then we are in the face of the challenge between the supreme court and the presidency," said Nasser Amin, head of the Arab Center for the Independence of the Judiciary and the Legal Profession. "We are about to enter a serious conflict" on both the legal and street level, he said.

Morsi and his supporters say the decrees were necessary to prevent the judiciary from blocking the "revolution's goals" of a transition to democracy. The courts ? where many Mubarak-era judges still hold powerful posts ? have already disbanded the first post-Mubarak elected parliament, which was led by the Brotherhood. Now it could also take aim at the Islamist-led upper house of parliament.

Morsi's decrees ban the judiciary from doing so and grant his decisions immunity from judicial review. Morsi also gave himself sweeping powers to prevent threats to the revolution, stability or state institutions, which critics say are tantamount to emergency laws. These powers are to remain in effect until the constitution is approved and parliamentary elections are held, not likely before spring 2013.

Opponents say the decrees turn Morsi ? who narrowly won last summer's election with just over 50 percent of the vote ? into a new dictator, given that he holds not only executive but also legislative powers, after the lower house of parliament was dissolved.

Tuesday's turnout was an unprecedented show of strength by the mainly liberal and secular opposition, which has been divided and uncertain amid the rise to power of the Brotherhood over the past year. The crowds were of all stripes, including many first-time protesters.

"Suddenly Morsi is issuing laws and becoming the absolute ruler, holding all powers in his hands," said Mona Sadek, a 31-year-old engineering graduate who wears the Islamic veil, a hallmark of piety. "Our revolt against the decrees became a protest against the Brotherhood as well."

"The Brotherhood hijacked the revolution," agreed Raafat Magdi, an engineer who was among a crowd of some 10,000 marching from the Cairo district of Shubra to Tahrir to the beat of drums and chants against the Brotherhood. Reform leader Mohammed ElBaradei led the march.

"People woke up to (Morsi's) mistakes, and in any new elections they will get no votes," Magdi said.

Many in the crowd said they were determined to push ahead with the protests until Morsi retreats. A major concern was that Islamists would use the decree's protection of the constitutional assembly to drive through their vision for the next charter, with a heavy emphasis on implementing Shariah, or Islamic law. The assembly has been plagued with controversy, and more than two dozen of its 100 members have quit in recent days to protest Islamist control.

"Next Friday will be decisive," protester Islam Bayoumi said of the upcoming rally. "If people maintain the same pressure and come in large numbers, they could manage to press the president and rescue the constitution."

A fellow protester, Saad Salem Nada, said of Morsi: "I am a Muslim and he made me hate Muslims because of the dictatorship in the name of religion. In the past, we had one Mubarak. Now we have hundreds."

Even as the crowds swelled in Tahrir, clashes erupted nearby between several hundred protesters throwing stones and police firing tear gas on a street leading to the U.S. Embassy. Clouds of tear gas hung over the area, where clashes have broken out for several days, fueled by anger over police abuses.

A photographer working for the AP, Ahmed Gomaa, was beaten by stick-wielding police while covering the clashes. Police took his equipment and Gomaa was taken to a hospital for treatment.

Rival rallies by Morsi opponents and supporters turned into brief clashes in the Mediterranean city of Alexandria, where anti-Morsi protesters broke into the local office of the Muslim Brotherhood, throwing furniture out the windows and trying unsuccessfully to set fire to it. Protesters also set fire to Brotherhood offices in the city of Mansoura.

Morsi's supporters canceled a massive rally planned for Tuesday in Cairo, citing the need to "defuse tension." Morsi's supporters say more than a dozen of their offices have been ransacked or set ablaze since Friday. Some 5,000 demonstrated in the southern city of Assiut in support of Morsi's decrees, according to witnesses there.

So far, there has been little sign of a compromise. On Monday, Morsi met with the nation's top judges and tried to win their acceptance of his decrees. But the move was dismissed by many in the opposition and the judiciary as providing no real concessions.

Saad Emara, a senior Muslim Brotherhood member, said Morsi will not make any concessions, especially after the surge of violence and assaults on Brotherhood offices.

Emara accused the opposition "of resorting to violence with a political cover," claiming that former ruling party and Mubarak-era businessmen were hiring thugs to attack Brotherhood offices with the opposition's blessing.

"The story now is that the civilian forces are playing with fire. This is a dangerous scene."

Adopting Swanns: Orphan Awareness Small Group Outline

My awesome hubby is on staff at our church as Home Group Pastor. He writes the home group outline each week so that the home group leaders/facilitators can lead their group through a discussion/meeting time. For this blog post, I copied and pasted his recent home group outline that was written for each of our home groups to use sometime during November. Although I live with this man, and we have been in the adoption process for close to 2 years now, it's not like we sit around and discuss these things daily. It brought tears to my eyes as I sat through our home group today and we went through this outline. He.is.awesome.?

We can raise awareness for the fatherless any time of the year. Even if you aren't in a home group, this outline would be perfect to use in a Bible study or Sunday School class to plead the case of orphans, widows and those marginalized in our society.?

Violence, economic unrest as Egypt's political foes dig in their heels

CAIRO (AP) ? Supporters and opponents of Egypt's president on Sunday grew more entrenched in their potentially destabilizing battle over the Islamist leader's move to assume near absolute powers, with neither side appearing willing to back down as the stock market plunged amid the fresh turmoil.

The standoff poses one of the hardest tests for the nation's liberal and secular opposition since Hosni Mubarak's ouster nearly two years ago. Failure to sustain protests and eventually force Mohammed Morsi to loosen control could consign it to long-term irrelevance.

Clashes between the two sides spilled onto the streets for a third day since the president issued edicts that make him immune to oversight of any kind, including that of the courts.

A teenager was killed and at least 40 people were wounded when a group of anti-Morsi protesters tried to storm the local offices of the political arm of the president's Muslim Brotherhood in the Nile Delta city of Damanhoor, according to security officials.

It was the first reported death from the street battles that erupted across much of the nation on Friday, the day after Morsi's decrees were announced. The officials, who spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to speak to the media, identified the boy as 15-year-old Islam Hamdi Abdel-Maqsood.

The tensions also dealt a fresh blow to the economy, which has suffered due to the problems plaguing the Arab world's most populous nation since Mubarak's ouster.

Egypt's benchmark EGX30 stock index dropped 9.59 percentage points Sunday in the first trading session since Morsi issued his decrees. The losses were among the biggest since the turbulent days and weeks immediately after Mubarak's ouster in a popular uprising last year. The loss in the value of shares was estimated at close to $5 billion.

The judiciary, the main target of the edicts, has pushed back, calling the decrees a power grab and an "assault" on the branch's independence. Judges and prosecutors stayed away from many courts in Cairo and other cities on Sunday.

But the nation's highest judicial body, the Supreme Judiciary Council, watered down its opposition to the decrees on Sunday. It told judges and prosecutors to return to work and announced that its members would meet with Morsi on Monday to try to persuade him to restrict immunity to major state decisions like declaring war or martial law or breaking diplomatic relations with foreign nations.

Morsi supporters insist that the measures were necessary to prevent the courts, which already dissolved the elected lower house of parliament, from further holding up moves to stability by disbanding the assembly writing the new constitution, as judges were considering doing. Both the parliament and the constitutional assembly are dominated by Islamists. Morsi accuses Mubarak loyalists in the judiciary of seeking to thwart the revolution's goals and barred the judiciary from disbanding the constitutional assembly or parliament's upper house.

Opposition activists, however, have been adamant since the crisis first erupted that they would not enter a dialogue with Morsi's regime before the decrees are rescinded.

Protesters also clashed with police at Cairo's Tahrir Square, the birthplace of the mass protests that toppled Mubarak, and in the side streets and avenues leading off the plaza. The Interior Ministry, which is in charge of the police, said 267 protesters have been arrested and 164 policemen injured since the unrest began a week ago, initially to mark the anniversary of street protests a year ago against the nation's then-military rulers. Forty-two protesters were killed in those demonstrations.

The ministry did not say how many protesters were injured in the latest clashes in Tahrir, but security officials put the figure at 260.

Hundreds of protesters staging a sit-in in Tahrir have vowed not to leave before Morsi rescinds his decrees. The two sides also have called for massive rival protests Tuesday in Cairo, signaling a protracted struggle.

Morsi's office issued an English-language statement late Sunday defending his decrees and repeating the argument he used when addressing supporters Friday outside his Cairo palace ? that they were designed to bolster the country's transition to democratic rule and dismantle Mubarak's old regime.

"The presidency reiterates the temporary nature of the said measures, which are not meant to concentrate powers," it said. The statement also pledged Morsi's commitment to engaging all political forces on the drafting of a new constitution. Secular and Christian members withdrew from the panel drafting the document, alleging that the Islamists who dominate the body have hijacked the process to produce a charter with an Islamist slant.

Nader Omran, of the Brotherhood's Freedom and Justice party, said any changes to the decrees were "out of the question" but Morsi might "make pledges, vows or addendums explaining his position to clarify the decrees."

He said Morsi would hand over his legislative powers to parliament's upper chamber once a new constitution is adopted in a nationwide referendum and ahead of parliamentary elections. The presidency did not confirm the claim, but doing so would leave the Egyptian leader with the state's executive and legislative powers until around April.

The move also has caused some internal discord among the Morsi camp, with one aide, Samer Marqous, already resigning to protest the "undemocratic" decree.

Another Morsi adviser Ayman al-Sayyad wrote on his Twitter account that the president met Sunday for the second time in as many days with his 17-member advisory council and three of his assistants.

"I think it (the meeting) produced a genuine realization of the gravity of the situation ... We were candid today in our meeting with the president and we now expect practical steps on the ground." He did not elaborate.

Leading Egyptian democracy advocate Mohammed ElBaradei, a Nobel Peace Laureate and a former director of the U.S. nuclear agency, warned Saturday of increasing turmoil that could potentially lead to the military stepping in unless Morsi rescinds his new powers.

Egypt's liberal and secular groups ? long divided, weakened and uncertain as Islamist parties rose to power in the months after the revolution ? are seeking to rally in response to the decrees as the stakes are high. The fractured opposition came together as the engine of the 18-day uprising that forced Mubarak to step down after 29 years in power, bringing millions out on the streets, but they have failed to recapture that energy after months of setbacks.

Morsi, meanwhile, already has backed down twice in high-profile battles with the judiciary in the five months he's been in office. The U.S.-trained engineer failed to challenge the court ruling dissolving parliament's powerful lower chamber and had to rescind his decision to fire the country's attorney-general, Mubarak-era appointee Abdel-Maguid Mahmoud, in October. He fired him on Thursday as part of his edicts.

Role Of SCUBA Diving Gear In Technical And Recreational Diving ...

If you had to ditch your gear would you be able to remove your BCD on your own? The bubbles that can be seen falling towards the divers? feet because are actually really rising to the surface. Scuba divers dive in shark cages and in most cases diving equipment rental tends to be cheaper than they would if you were not using a cage. For the past 25 years, the island of Phuket has catered for a large number of tourists from all over the world, a large percentage of whom are scuba divers looking to dive on some Asia?s finest dive sites. Orcas Island, the largest island off the coast of Washington state, is often called as ?gem of the San Juan islands?.

Look for a simple scuba workout combined with nearly any form of cardio to help you move into the ?fat but fit? category. It is not uncommon for a shark?s pectoral fin to glide just into the gap in the cage as it swims past. Louis club frequently gives back to its community in special ways. Keen surfers who are holidaying on the east coast should head over to Arugam Bay, widely renowned as one of the best surf spots in Sri Lanka. This means that the decision between renting your scuba gear and purchasing your scuba gear is even more critical if you?re above average in size.

If you don?t have a set of weights and a workout bench, get one. Even if you aren?t a diver, glass bottomed boat tours are offered here, and the beach is also noted as having some of the most active night life on the island. Therefore, you should also follow proper procedures before you take you nude diving adventure. Oxygen tanks and the tubes and mouthpieces which allow the user to inhale and exhale air from them are very common these days. This zero gravity environment provides the backdrop for romance, intrigue and adventure.

We often have rebreather divers joining us for some leisure diving or rebreather training in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, Borneo and one of the questions we often get asked by recreational divers is ?How does a rebreather work??. Why Altitude Corrections for scuba diving? If you are already qualified either with BSAC or another recognised dive agency and looking to join a club, or returning after a break from the sport, then the club will be happy to welcome you with a discounted joining fee. The schools offer training to the individuals followed by the certificates. Artificial reefs are fantastic underwater attractions for divers and they also provide new habitats for underwater species.

They just made it an official PADI basic open water certification along with a membership to the club. In this case it would be best not to fret too much about your weight initially, instead concentrate on improving your overall fitness as it will have a much larger impact on your ability to scuba dive. Children and adults can learn about the ocean and all the animals found in it, up close and personal. Many divers risk their lives by overlooking certain risks. The oceans are full of things that humans can use to help with real life situations.

For deeper dives the Air Diluent would swapped out for different mixtures of Trimix (Helium, Nitrogen and Oxygen). The first requirement is the divers must be 10 years old to enroll in a diving course. If the outside pressure is 30 and inside pressure is 10, then eardrum will bulge inside, until the inside pressure is 30. One thing all of these events had in common is they were organized and planned especially for members in the pursuit of fun. In addition to the great feeling that you get while diving nude, there are also the safety considerations.

You have to remain calm while your face is being submerged in water, which can cause a natural reflex of feeling like you are going to drown. It is one of the most beautiful places on earth and only a few fortunate people take time to see the beauty that it has to offer. Cuba has the second largest barrier reef system in the world which sits in clear warm waters. Scuba diving is not only a fun activity for all but it can be useful in the field of marine biology. Dives of different depths are planned depending upon the experience of the divers.

You have to use more air than when you are younger and carrying the heavy equipment can be a bit of a problem. Cardiovascular fitness should be the area to focus your efforts as this will have the greatest effect on air consumption and general comfort while scuba diving. On 20th November, 1619, a hurricane hit the Caribbean island and the moorings gave way sending it crashing into the surrounding reefs and rocks. Travellers flock to the Indian Ocean destination for its warm turquoise crystal clear waters, pristine white sand and palm-infringed beaches, and luxury Maldives hotels comprising beach resorts and luxury water villas on stilts above the calm sparkling ocean waters. The area is well known for its beautiful colourful coral reefs and hundreds of species of tropical fish.

That?s not bad of an investment for the end results. If you feel that you are fit, even though you are considered to be overweight, then it is most likely that you will have little difficulty scuba diving, with the exception of possible equipment issues related to your size. It involves working of all muscle groups thus providing a complete cardiovascular exercise. ?In all of Ecuador there were 1,489 diver certifications issued in 2011. To organise a refresher course or a free taster session email or call the centre on 07951 855725 or trydives@bracknellscuba.org.uk.

We did most of our training in the locks at the submarine base. Dives of different depths are planned depending upon the experience of the divers.

Business Startup Concerns | Managing Startups | Small Business ...

Business startups can be a stressful and challenging process, especially if its your first startup. A single missed to-do list item might be a key element with a big impact on your future operations.? In the course of the start-up phase, it?s genuinely difficult to discern what is and is not significant and what might turn into a critical item in the future. That stated, here are two absolutely crucial concerns that new business owners often overlook during and after the business launch.

Retain Competent Professional Services

Out of the starting block, ascertaining what legal structure (i.e., LLC, Corporation, Partnership, etc.) is most optimal for your new company is cucial. Each varies in how they affect the personal liability of the owners as well as their taxes.?

Jennifer L. Todd CPAJennifer L. Todd, CPA at Mastering Business?-

While many budding entrepreneurs try to do this on their own, they often wind up making costly mistakes. It happens more than you would think.? Making the smart decision to find a competent, business-savvy attorney and a reputable CPA to guide you in your company?s formation will help you avoid potential legal and tax problems.

Many times a new client comes to me thinking that they were operating as one type of legal entity and it turned out that they had not filed the correct paperwork and thus were not operating under the optimal legal or tax structure. This mistake not only causes a severe headache come tax filing time, but it can be a costly problem in the event legal issues arise between owners, with customers or with vendors. It will cost you more to have a CPA or attorney fix your mistakes than it would have cost for them complete the paperwork correctly the first time.

Don?t get me wrong?many entrepreneurs, by themselves, are capable of filing much of the paperwork that is needed. But to avoid missing important filings, deadlines and misunderstandings of the legal and tax implications of the different business structures available, it pays to have a competent professional on your side.

Not Keeping a Full Set of Books

No matter how small your business, you need to keep track of the inflows and outflows of your business transactions. Not only is this essential for accurate and timely preparation of federal, state and local tax filings, it will also reduce your accounting fees at tax time and is necessary for proper business management. How can you assess the results of operations of your new venture or accurately project your tax liability if you have no idea what your bottom line is? The answer is simple: you can?t. Cash in the bank does not always equal profitability nor does it indicate taxability.

Business owners will neglect this task for a variety of reasons. They don?t ?like? accounting. They ?aren?t numbers people.? And the most common reason: they?re afraid of what might be lurking and keeping things out of sight keeps them out of mind?but eventually this task must be faced.? If a business owner is not willing to budget in the cost of keeping a full set of books for their business, they simply should not be in business.? This vital management function must be done from day one and continue until the business ceases to exist.

Unfortunately, there are many entrepreneurs who discount the value that the two areas above add to their strategic advantage. Simply put, if these are areas that a business owner omits from their start-up budget, they will be the one who struggles to make it. I have seen this time and again. While there is nothing wrong with operating frugally and starting lean, these are two areas where it never pays to cut corners.
