Skylar Laine Gets The Boot On 'American Idol'

Perpetual bottom-dweller Hollie Cavanagh lives to see another day.

Skylar Laine is headed back to Brandon, Mississippi.

The 18-year-old country spitfire was sent home on Thursday's (May 3) "American Idol" results episode, after receiving the fewest number of votes following Wednesday's performance episode. Nearly 60 million votes were cast, host Ryan Seacrest reported during the show.

Laine found herself in the bottom two alongside Hollie Cavanagh. Now that the field is down to five singers, there was no bottom three.

When the news was delivered to Laine, she hugged Cavanagh tight at the center of the stage. After composing herself, she sang Miranda Lambert's "Gunpowder & Lead" as the show closed.

Just one night prior, Jennifer Lopez told Laine she had victory in her grasp. "You wanna win, don't you?" Lopez asked Laine after she sang Dusty Springfield's "You Don't Have to Say You Love Me," which followed her earlier performance of Creedence Clearwater Revival's "Fortunate Son." Laine replied affirmatively, to which Lopez said, "I can tell. And you just might with performances like that."

In his assessment of her Wednesday performances, mentor Jimmy Iovine called Laine "a fighter" and praised her for suiting up and showing up "every night." He said he thought she did well, though he said her take on the Dusty Springfield song lacked the "darkness" of the original. "She doesn't deserve to go home because of that," Iovine said, "but it was less than what I know she's capable of."

In Iovine's estimation, Phillip Phillips and Jessica Sanchez should have landed in the bottom two. He said Phillips has been "coasting" and described his two performances as "very bland." As for Sanchez, Iovine called her performance of Tina Turner's "Proud Mary" a "travesty" and said he should have talked her out of singing it when he had the chance. He said her outfit during the song was "too mature" and "too racy" and said the "Idol" wardrobe department was "torpedoing" her.

Coldplay also appeared and performed two songs, "Paradise" and "Every Teardrop Is a Waterfall," and fourth-season "Idol" winner Carrie Underwood stopped by and performed "Blown Away," the title track from her latest album, which hit stores this week.

Under the microscope: Samsung Galaxy S III's HD Super AMOLED display

By now you should already know that the brand-spanking-new Samsung Galaxy S III sports a 4.8-inch HD Super AMOLED display. That's right: no "plus" here, which means this 720p panel is featuring the same old PenTile RBGB pixel arrangement -- just like the 4.65-inch version on the Galaxy Nexus and the Galaxy S II HD LTE. Needless to say, this is again pure ammunition for the folks over at LG; but as we've mentioned before, HD Super AMOLED's superb contrast and higher-than-before pixel density outweigh its shortcomings in most cases.

For now though, let's examine these sub-pixels with a 230x zoom USB microscope and compare them with other phones that we have in hand. Starting off with the HTC One X's 720p SLCD 2 above, you can see how its denser sub-pixels produce a finer picture, but ultimately it's still behind HD Super AMOLED when it comes to contrast, especially with black. Australia: BG Unit QGC Sells Stake in Senex>> LNG World News

QGC Pty Ltd, a wholly owned subsidiary of BG Group plc, has advised Senex Energy Limited that it has sold the 73.9 million shares it holds in Senex, equivalent to 8.0% of Senex issued capital, in an off-market sale, managed and underwritten by RBS Morgans Limited.

RBS Morgans advised that the $75 million institutional bookbuild executed overnight was oversubscribed by a broad spread of domestic and international fund managers and professional investors.

The sale was completed at $1.02 per Senex share, a 9.1% discount to Senex VWAP on Monday 30 April 2012, and a 5.4% discount to Senex one month VWAP.

Senex Managing Director Ian Davies said: ?We appreciate the strong support we have enjoyed from BG Group, and we believe we have rewarded that support with outstanding performance as an investment. The sale of this substantial parcel was a rare opportunity for institutional investors to quickly acquire meaningful exposure to Senex ? one of the fastest growing energy stocks and the newest entrant in the S&P/ASX 200 index.

?We are delighted that strong interest from institutional investors translated into an overwhelming demonstration of financial commitment. This transaction has fortified the capacity of the Senex share register to support accelerated resource development in the Cooper Basin,? he said.

BG Group is a major participant in Australia?s coal seam gas to liquefied natural gas (LNG) industry through its wholly owned subsidiary QGC. Through its Queensland Curtis LNG project in Gladstone, the company intends to initially produce up to 8.5 million tonnes of LNG a year, with first gas expected in 2014.

Senex and BG Group remain joint venture partners in two strategically located coal seam gas tenements in the eastern Surat Basin: PL 171 (Senex 20%) and ATP 574P (Senex 30%).
