Improving Health Care and those who do the Caring | Michigan ...

Every eight seconds, another boomer turns 65. This year alone, more than 3 billion Americans will celebrate that birthday.

The Affordable Care Act will reduce fees for prescription drugs, lower the cost of private Medicare supplements and increase access to free preventive care. Some reports indicate that Medicare enrollees with high prescription drug spending will save up to $12,300 over the next 10 years due to this reform alone.

The law cuts $700 billion in unnecessary Medicare spending over the next 10 years, reducing the rate at which payments to providers are growing. Over 90 percent of Americans age 50-plus agree that people should have the freedom to grow old at home with dignity. To meet this demand, by 2020 1.6 million new direct-care jobs must be added, which is good news for our economy and because home care is less expensive than hospitals or long-term care, it?s good news for your pocketbook as well.

If we value caring for older people with dignity, we should treat their care workers with dignity as well. The average U.S. home care worker makes less than $10 per hour. And many home care workers are immigrant women of color who, because of deficient pay, a lack of sick days, and access to immigration papers, can?t in turn take care of their own families.

Flashback to 1965, the Senate passed the Medicare bill and President Lyndon Johnson said, ?We have proved, once again, that the vitality of our democracy can shape the oldest of our values to the needs and obligations of today.?

When we think about the health care system we should be concerned with how to better care for everyone, including workers.

Seahawks respond to 'obnoxious' 49ers coach

Updated: October 23, 2012, 10:09 AM ET

ESPN.com news services

RENTON, Wash. -- While the Seattle Seahawks returned to practice Monday after an extended weekend off and started looking ahead to Detroit, some of their thoughts remained in the Bay Area.

The Seahawks responded to comments from 49ers coach Jim Harbaugh and his belief that Seattle's defensive backs were overly physical with San Francisco's wide receivers in the Thursday night game, to the point he intended on speaking with the league.

?

LAST NAMEYou're supposed to be happy after you win a football game, right? I'm not big for media anyway. That's just who he is, I guess, since they won the football game. It's obnoxious to me since they won the football game. We play a physical sport.

? -- Seahawks CB Brandon Browner, on 49ers coach Jim Harbaugh

Harbaugh said Friday he felt Seattle's defensive backs were pushing the rules on the amount of contact allowed downfield and making it difficult for receivers Michael Crabtree, Randy Moss and Kyle Williams to break free. Seattle coach Pete Carroll didn't agree.

"I just looked at the film. I heard about the comments and wanted to see what was the point, and I thought it was a very normal game," Carroll said Monday. "I thought our guys played really hard and tough, and they did too, and that was it. I don't know what the reference was about. I just hope it doesn't go any farther, like to the league. There is no need for it to."

Carroll had even stronger comments earlier in the day on his weekly radio show where he referenced Harbaugh's previous comments about the claims from New York Giants offensive coordinator Kevin Gilbride, releasing a statement before the team's game defending 49ers defensive end Justin Smith and noting that it was "obvious that the Giants coaching staff's sole purpose is to use their high visibility to both criticize and influence officiating."

"Wasn't it just a couple weeks ago when they were talking about not doing things like that?" Carroll said in the radio interview, according to seattlepi.com. "The Giants, Kevin Gilbride or something like that? You know, I thought there was something about that, you know? Where we don't go out and express our concerns and all."

Carroll took a more tactful approach later Monday, but one of the players in question, Seattle cornerback Brandon Browner, felt the comments were "obnoxious" considering the 49ers won the game and took over first place in the NFC West.

"You're supposed to be happy after you win a football game, right?" Browner said. "I'm not big for media anyway. That's just who he is, I guess, since they won the football game. It's obnoxious to me since they won the football game. We play a physical sport."

NFC West Blog

ESPN.com's Mike Sando writes about all things NFC West in his division blog.

??Network: NFL Nation

Browner was one of the more penalized defensive backs in the league last year, and with fellow Seattle cornerback Richard Sherman, has drawn praise and complaints for their hands-on, physical approach they take in trying to fluster wide receivers. Browner has not been flagged for defensive pass interference or illegal contact this season and has just one defensive holding penalty. Last year he was flagged 13 times for those same penalties.

"I just went out there and did my thing," Browner said. "Didn't get any penalties called. I thought I played a good game from that aspect."

The Seahawks and 49ers will meet once more in the regular season when Seattle hosts its division rival on Dec. 23.

Seattle's defense could be getting additional depth after Walter Thurmond's return to practice on Monday. Thurmond has spent the entire season on the physically unable to perform list while he recovered from two fractures in his lower left leg, which he first injured in the middle of last season in a game against Cleveland. Carroll said the Seahawks are unsure whether Thurmond will be added to the active roster this week, but he was impressed with how quick Thurmond looked during practice.

"It's just getting the rust off from being back out there and actually practicing with pads on and stuff like that, but I feel good and feel in shape," Thurmond said.

Wind farm public inquiry starts

The Mountaineering Council of Scotland and Cairngorms National Park Authority oppose the wind farm planned for Allt Duine in the Monadhliath Mountains

A public inquiry examining plans for a 31-turbine wind farm close to the boundary of the Cairngorms National Park has started in Aviemore.

RWE Npower Renewables has proposed the development for the site at Allt Duine in the Monadhliath Mountains.

Kincraig Community Council has backed the project saying it would help Badenoch and Strathspey be self sufficient in terms of electricity.

The Mountaineering Council of Scotland and other groups oppose the plan.

RWE Npower Renewables had proposed 34 turbines, but reduced the size of the scheme following public consultation.

The turbines will have a maximum height to blade tip of 125m (410ft). At three locations the developer said the height would be restricted to 110m (360ft) to avoid turbines from being seen at viewpoints within the Strathspey area.

'Unspoilt landscape'

In January, Highland Council's south planning applications committee voted nine to three to oppose the project.

Councillors took the UK's highest railway journey to help them assess the potential visual impact of the Allt Duine scheme.

They travelled on the Cairngorms funicular railway which climbs to 1,097m (3,599ft).

The railway's highest point is just below the summit of CairnGorm Mountain.

The Scottish government, which has the final say on the development, had consulted Highland Council. The local authority's decision to oppose the project resulted in government holding the public inquiry.

Before the start of the inquiry, Kincraig Community Council told BBC Radio Scotland it was supporting the wind farm.

Spokesman John Anderson said the community council had waited until it had all the facts before voting on it.

Mr Anderson said the wind farm would help to tackle climate change, conserve fossil fuels for future generations and allow the area of Badenoch and Strathspey to generate its own electricity and not have to rely on power produced in other people's "back yards".

He added: "The hills that we have are very, very valuable, but at the same time the Scottish government has been trying to get businesses into the Highlands and Islands for years and here we have a company that can come in and harvest the wind in the area."

The Mountaineering Council of Scotland has been campaigning against the development, warning that it would harm an unspoilt landscape.

Chief officer David Gibson said: "We support green energy generation but this scheme involves dumping 15,500 tonnes of concrete and miles of roads in mountain areas of national importance and beauty.

"Wind farms are supposed to have a lifetime of 25 years, we would therefore expect developers to include proposals for site restitution in their plans as evidence of good stewardship of the environment.

"This public inquiry should protect our precious natural environment by putting a stop to this completely inappropriate project."

The Cairngorms National Park Authority has also lodged an objection to the public inquiry. It said some of the turbines would come as close as 900m (2,952ft) from the park's boundary.

Voters In RI, Ore., Md. To Vote On Casinos ? CBS Baltimore

NEWPORT, R.I. (AP) ? The slot machines at Newport Grand chirp just like the ones in Vegas. The winners exult and the losers shrug just as they do in Atlantic City. But ask for the blackjack tables and you?ll be directed to a video game screen with a smiling, virtual dealer. The nearest table action is 50 miles away in Connecticut.

?Wouldn?t it be great to see a real person standing there?? asks Cathy Rayner, a Newport Grand employee and president of the union representing the 200 workers at the slot parlor in Rhode Island?s famed seaside resort. ?That could be a person earning good benefits.?

Rhode Island may soon grant her wish. Along with those in Oregon and Maryland, voters here will decide Nov. 6 whether to authorize an expansion of legal gambling in an increasingly cluttered and competitive market that now includes casinos, slot parlors or tribal facilities in 40 states.

Maryland is in the midst of a bruising battle over a proposal to authorize table games at its casinos, and to approve a new gambling facility close to Washington. Campaign spending for and against the ballot question is nearly $40 million, exceeding the amount spent in the state?s 2006 governor?s race. The proposal is being fought by a company that operates a casino in nearby West Virginia.

Las Vegas and Atlantic City once enjoyed a corner on the casino business until one state after another moved to welcome casinos, riverboat gambling or slot parlors. Despite a dip in gambling revenues during the Great Recession, states continue to place bets on expanded gambling.

Commercial casinos contributed nearly $8 billion to state and local governments in 2011, according to the American Gaming Association.

Ohio, Maryland, New York and Kansas have added casinos in the past two years. Massachusetts authorized casinos last year. Pennsylvania?s first casinos opened in 2006, and the state is now the nation?s second-largest gambling market after Las Vegas.

?It?s like a casino arms race where one state has slots, so the other state adds slots, then the first state adds a casino,? said David Schwartz, director of the Center for Gaming Research at the University of Nevada-Las Vegas. ?We?re running out of states that don?t have gambling. The question is whether there?s a saturation point. We?re going to find out because the market is going to tell us.?

There are signs that the push for more casinos may be ebbing, at least in some states.

A casino referendum in Oregon appears to be failing before the voters even weigh in. Last week two Canadian companies pushing plans to open Oregon?s first privately owned casino announced they would spend no additional money on their campaign, saying ?it appears ? not enough Oregon voters are ready to add a private casino to the state?s gaming options.?

Oregon already has several casinos operated by Indian tribes. The proposed casino would be located in the Portland metro area and would also include a hotel and waterpark. Its developers spent $5 million on campaign ads promising jobs and education funding. But the proposal was a long shot even before the state?s tribes opposed it: Two years ago a casino referendum won just 32 percent of the vote here.

Rhode Island has long resisted efforts to authorize casino games, though its two slot parlors contribute about $300 million a year to state coffers. Combined with state lottery proceeds, that?s the state?s third-largest source of revenue. Voters here last rejected a casino referendum in 2006, but supporters of this year?s push say times have changed.

Next-door Massachusetts authorized casinos this year, though none have yet opened. Twin River and Newport Grand say competition from those facilities will threaten their business and the revenue they create for the state.

Local and state leaders say expanded gambling could mean more jobs and economic activity for a state with 10.5 percent unemployment, the second-highest jobless rate in the nation. The ballot questions have the support of Gov. Lincoln Chafee and, importantly, Senate President Teresa Paiva Weed, a Newport Democrat and a one-time opponent of casinos.

Twin River and Newport Grand have spent more than $4.3 million on their campaigns for the ballot questions, which must pass statewide and in the host communities. Of that total, Twin River?s campaign organization had spent $3.9 million.

John Taylor Jr., chairman of the Twin River board of directors, said his facility stands to lose hundreds of jobs if the referendum fails, but could add hundreds if it?s approved. He said the slot parlor, just south of the Massachusetts line, could begin offering poker and blackjack as early as next summer if the ballot question is approved, giving it a significant head start over Massachusetts, where casinos are still years away from opening.

The rush to capitalize on gambling has critics warning that states are chasing after an increasingly small piece of the gambling pie ? and at the expense of bettors and their families.

?They keep saying `jobs, jobs, jobs,? but who is going to pay these salaries?? asked the Rev. Eugene McKenna, chairman of Citizens Concerned about Casino Gambling, a group opposing the ballot questions in Rhode Island. ?It?s not pennies from heaven. It?s hundreds of thousands of dollars from people who can?t afford to lose it.?

McKenna said a casino in Newport would forever alter the city now known for its historic seaside location, its Gilded Age mansions and upscale tourism.

To Diane Hurley, chief executive and co-owner of Newport Grand, the referendum is about keeping her family business afloat. Hurley?s father opened the facility nearly 40 years ago as a venue for jai alai. On a tour of the cavernous slot parlor she greets her employees and many patrons by name. She never asked for permission to offer table games, until the prospect of casinos in Massachusetts forced her to reconsider.

?Massachusetts kept threatening and threatening to do it, but then it became a reality and it wasn?t `maybe? anymore,? Hurley said.

The Great ?Smart Meters? Hoax. Electromagnetic Fields Are Real ...

23rd October 2012

By?Raluca?Schachter

Contributing Writer for?Wake Up World

Just when you thought modern technology in the wrong hands of profit driven companies can?t possibly destroy your health, soil, air, food and water any worse than it already does?something even more monstrous is cooking in their ?money making oven?!

This time it is called?SMART METER!

The only ?smart? thing about it is that the utility providers found a dirty way to measure (and in the future control) your use of gas, electricity and water, by ensuring bigger profits, more control and power for them and a high cost for you.

The reality is that this action caused a?large number of people reporting health effects, privacy violations, safety and security dangers, environmental damage and much bigger bills.

Utilities across the country are installing the so-called wireless ?smart? meters. Take a look at the shocking short video below to quickly grasp the whole picture:

?

How Does The Smart Meter Technology Work?

These meters operate in a wireless mesh network with your neighbors? Smart Meters and transmit intense bursts of non-ionising, microwave radiation, 24 hrs/ day. ?This radiation (also known as RF EMF) is the same kind emitted by mobile phone masts. More than 5,000 studies show RF EMF radiation is harmful to humans, plants and animals.

Smart Meters can expose the body to 160 to 800x times as much microwave radiation as mobile phones.?Smart Meters can emit intense pulses of radiation more than 14,000 times each day!?(as stated by Senior Nuclear Policy Lecturer at UCSC, Daniel Hirsch).

?

How Do Smart Meters Affect Your Health?

Thousands of people have complained of?tinnitus, headaches, nausea, sleeplessness, allergies, heart arrhythmia, and other symptoms after a ?smart? meter was installed. ?An increasing number of people?are developing??electro-sensitivity?.? There are also reports of ?smart? meter interference with pacemakers and other implants.

European surveys have shown at least 1 in 20 people are moderately or severely sensitive to RF EMF radiation, experiencing one or more of the symptoms above. ?Human, animal and cell culture studies indicate long term systemic health effects from radiation, including?hormone disruption, DNA damage, leakage of blood-brain barrier, sperm count reduction and damage, sleep disorders, learning difficulties, ADHD, dementia and cancer. There is concern that pregnant women and children are particularly vulnerable.

In this eye opening video by renowned?dr. Dietrich Klinghardt, you can actually see how low level pulsed microwave radiation causes insects to ?jump? off the leaves!?Imagine what this can do to your own cells, every hour of the day and night! This is a must watch video to fully understand the implications such technologies have, how they can affect your health if you don?t remove yourself from the source and what the safe alternatives are.

?

What Can You Do To Avoid Smart Meters?

Smart Meters are voluntary!?YOU HAVE THE RIGHT TO REFUSE SMART METERS.??Although you might encounter some opposition from your utility provider, remember they can not breach your withdrawal of consent. Get educated and active, inform other people in your neighborhood and create a smart meter-free environment. ?Write letters to your utility provider and ask for removal of your smart meter. ?You can find more useful tips and information by checking out the websites under ?resources? below.

Remember, if you can?t actually feel it, see it or smell it, it doesn?t mean it doesn?t exist and so it can?t possibly affect your health. ?Radiation is real!

(AP) ? The White House says it is prepared to talk one-on-one with Iran to find a diplomatic settlement to the impasse over Tehran's reported pursuit of nuclear weapons, but there's no agreement now to meet.

National Security Council spokesman Tommy Vietor said Saturday that President Barack Obama has made clear that he will prevent Iran from getting a nuclear weapon and will do whatever's necessary to block that from happening. Vietor said Iran must come in line with its obligations, or else faced increased pressure.

"The onus is on the Iranians to do so, otherwise they will continue to face crippling sanctions and increased pressure," Vietor said in a statement. He noted that efforts to get Iran back to the table with the five permanent members of the U.N. Security Council and Germany ? the so-called "P5+1" ? continue.

Iran has been a recurring issue in the presidential election campaign and Vietor's statement was released shortly after The New York Times reported Saturday that the U.S. and Iran have agreed in principle for the first time to negotiations. The paper said Iran has insisted the talks wait until after the Nov. 6 election.

Vietor, however, denied that any such agreement had been reached.

"It's not true that the United States and Iran have agreed to one-on-one talks or any meeting after the American elections," he said. "We continue to work with the P5+1 on a diplomatic solution and have said from the outset that we that we would be prepared to meet bilaterally."

Obama and Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney will meet Monday night in a debate focusing on foreign policy and Iran's nuclear ambitions will likely be a topic. Obama has said he'll prevent Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons. He hopes sanctions alongside negotiations can get Iran to halt uranium enrichment. But the strategy, which began during President George W. Bush's administration, hasn't worked yet. Obama holds out the threat of military action as a last resort. Romney has accused Obama of being weak on Iran and says the U.S. needs to present a greater military threat.

Despite unprecedented global penalties, Iran's nuclear program is advancing as it continues to defy international pressure, including four rounds of sanctions from the U.N. Security Council, to prove that its atomic intentions are peaceful.

Those sanctions, coupled with tough measures imposed by the United States and European nations are taking their toll, particularly on Iran's economy. Iranian authorities have in recent weeks been forced to quell protests over the plummeting value of the country's currency. The rial lost nearly 40 percent of its value against the U.S. dollar in a week in early October, but has since slightly rebounded.

U.S. officials say they are hopeful that pressure from the sanctions may be pushing Iran's leaders toward concessions, including direct talks with the United States. But several said on Saturday that they did not believe such discussions would happen any time soon.

If one-on-one talks are to occur, they would likely follow the model that the U.S. has used in six-nation nuclear disarmament talks with North Korea, the officials said.

In those discussions, U.S. negotiators have met separately with their North Korean counterparts but only as part of the larger effort, which also involves China, Japan, South Korea and Russia. Direct U.S.-North Korean talks are preceded and followed by intense consultations with the other members of the group.

However, the direct talks with North Korea have yet to bear fruit and U.S. officials warned that talks with Iran may not yield anything either. If U.S.-Iran talks do occur, they would likely be part of the P5+1 process, which groups the Britain, China, France, Germany, Russia and the United States and is overseen by the European Union. The group has met numerous times with Iranian officials but has yet to achieve any significant progress.

In late September, the group instructed EU foreign policy chief Catherine Ashton to reach out to Iran's top nuclear negotiator, Saeed Jalili, to organize another meeting. No date had been set for the possible resumption of talks.

Iran says its program is for peaceful energy and research purposes but Western nations fear the Islamic republic is determined to develop nuclear weapons and fundamentally reshape the balance of power in the Middle East. That would pose a grave threat to Israel.

Israel has threatened to strike Iran's nuclear facilities if Tehran doesn't stop uranium enrichment a process that can be a pathway to nuclear arms. Israel could decide to strike Iran's nuclear sites on its own, and Israeli leaders say time to act is running out. They have also hinted they would like U.S. support for any such attack.

An Israeli strike on Iran with or without Washington's involvement would likely draw retribution from Tehran including possible attacks on U.S. and Israeli interests overseas or disruptions to the transit of tankers through the Strait of Hormuz, which could send oil prices skyrocketing.

Obama has counseled patience as public as American public support for another Mideast conflict is low with the Iraq war over and the conflict in Afghanistan winding down.

Researching Auto Responders | CoolHQ

If you are in the Internet marketing business or if you run a business online, an autoresponder can make a world of difference. They can handle a majority of your technical support questions and informational requests, by sending out automated messages to interested customers. When they get an email, they will respond instantly with a preset message. This can save you quite a bit of time- especially if you get a lot of emails on a daily basis.

Out there on the Internet, there are many autoresponders to choose from. They are classified into three main types ? locally hosted, remote hosted and desktop hosted. Each type has pros and cons, depending on your needs. Locally and desktop hosted programs will give you complete control over the program, as you run them through your own server or website. Remote hosted on the other hand, is ran through a third party service provider. Remote programs cost you a monthly fee, while desktop and locally hosted programs cost one fee ? then you have complete ownership of the program.

Before you decide to purchase an autoresponder, you should always compare and see what each one has to offer. If you are interested in running one from your server or website, then you?ll need to look at desktop and locally hosted autoresponders. There are free programs available online, although they will normally come with strings attached, such as ads in your emails. This can be a bad thing, as ads in your email will give customers the wrong impression. www.Automatic-Responder.com is a great service that also offers a free version for up to 250 subscribers and no advertisements.

When you purchase one of these types of autoresponder programs, you should always research and find out all that you can. There are many programs out there that you can buy, many of which will offer you great features at a great price. Buying your program is the way to go, especially if you have an image to uphold. Once you have found a program and buy it, it will be yours for as long as you decide to use it.

If you are looking towards a remotely hosted autoresponder, you?ll need to research for the best prices and service, this is a must when shopping around. You?ll be dealing with a company who has control over the address of the autoresponder, meaning that your domain name won?t appear in the emails you send using the autoresponder. This can be good for some, although many prefer to have their name in their emails.

When it all comes down to it, you should always research an autoresponder before you decide to make a purchase or use a free program. There are several out there to choose from, although some are far superior to others. If you take the time and research what each one has to offer you and how much it will cost you ? you?ll end up with an autoresponder that will prove to be more than worth the cost.

Military zeppelin could land cargo without a runway

20 hrs.

In the future, U.S. soldiers abroad may see their supplies come in carried under the bellies of zeppelins. Aeros Corp., a California-based startup, is working on a high-tech prototype airship on the behalf of the U.S. Department of Defense. When completed, Aeros' Pelican zeppelin will test a novel combination of airship and airplane technologies for carrying cargo long distances, the industry news site Aviation Week reported.

In the Pelican's first test flights, scheduled for early 2013, developers just want to see that they can fly and control the aircraft, Aeros CEO Igor Pasternak told Aviation Week. In the future, Aeros hopes to build a larger version of the Pelican to carry tens of tons of cargo, like current military cargo planes do. Unlike planes, however, the Pelican should be able to take off and land vertically, so it won't need long runways at its landing sites. It should also be able to sit on the ground while it's being loaded, so it won't require tethers like other airships, and it will be able to land in poor weather.?

"This will land in Africa, Afghanistan, a Walmart parking lot ? wherever," Pasternak told the Los Angeles Times.

Cargo isn't the only reason the military is interested in airships, and the military isn't the only market for a modern generation of airships, the Los Angeles Times reported. The Pentagon now uses drones to patrol enemy areas, but airships can be more effective and less expensive patrollers. An unmanned airship is able to hover over one spot for days, while drones can only go on hours-long flights. The U.S. already has more than 100 camera-equipped balloons over Afghanistan, the Los Angeles Times reported. The balloons, called aerostats, are too large to be shot down.

Meanwhile, Lockheed Martin Corp. is developing airships to carry commercial cargo.

Not all of the military's bets on airships have worked out, the Los Angeles Times reported. ?The army has lost lighter-than-air craft during high winds, including an $8.2 million airship that drifted away and exploded during a tropical storm in Puerto Rico. The Air Force also scrapped a $211 million project called the Blue Devil because of development problems.

'Topless teacher' on iPad? District denies it

Apple

An Indiana school district says it will "establish stricter protocols in connection with students having access to school-owned computers and the connectability of those devices to personally-owned compatible Apple products" after students accessed an app on the tablet they shouldn't have.

By Suzanne Choney

When middle-schoolers in Indiana say they spotted a topless photo of their teacher on a school-issued iPad ? and then were suspended as a result of "unauthorized"?use of the device ? the case got national attention. However, the school district says it's not true.

The four students at?Highland Middle School in Anderson, Ind.?had approval to use a teacher's school-issued iPad to access some apps. They did not have approval to look in the iPad's photo viewer, but apparently they did. From there, the reports about what happened vary, and wildly.?According to one of the students, the youths saw a photo of the teacher topless, but the district said in a statement, released to TODAY.com, that it was "not a topless picture, not a nude picture, nor any pornographic material."

Anderson's Police Department looked into the matter.?While it is possible that the picture was sexually suggestive in some way,?it's not even clear that the teacher's face was visible in the image.?Area newspaper,?The Herald Bulletin, reported that a police department detective said in a press release that the photo "found by seventh-graders ... was not of a topless woman and the person depicted in the photo was partially clad and seen from the neck down." TODAY.com has contacted the police department, and will update this post if we hear back.

Joshua Troutt, 13, one of the suspended students, told TV station WRTV, "It's not our fault that she has a photo on there ? we couldn't do anything to not look at it, if it just popped up when you pressed the button ... it was her fault that she had the photo on there ? because her iPhone synced to it."

Sure enough, the photo seems to have appeared on the iPad because photos on the tablet and the teacher's iPhone were synced via iCloud's Photo Stream.?

Joshua's mother, Nicole Troutt, said in the same TV interview that the suspensions were "very unfair," and that action should be taken against the teacher.

TODAY.com contacted Benjamin Gale, school board president, who said that "due to federal and state laws" he is "not able to comment on any issues involving students."

But he shared the statement issued by the school district's attorney saying that the teacher did give "certain students" access to a school-owned iPad" which had been assigned to the teacher. The "precise purpose" was for the students to work "within two different applications."

Though the youngsters "explored the iPad and went to unauthorized applications," the report states, "the Anderson Police Department has investigated the issue and concluded that the picture was not pornographic and there was no criminal behavior."

One thing is for sure, says the school district. "Following the events that occurred Monday, the School Corporation will establish stricter protocols in connection with students having access to school-owned computers and the connectability [sic] of those devices to personally owned compatible Apple products."

This kind of mixup continues to be a growing problem in the world of education. Nationwide now, teachers in more than 40 school districts?have been told not to "friend" students on Facebook?because of the perils of misunderstandings or loose talk that can happen on the social network. (In New Jersey last year,?a judge ruled?a first-grade teacher should loser her job because she wrote on Facebook that she was a "warden for future criminals.") An?angry dad?who wanted to get back at a school administrator for confiscating his son's iPod created a fake porn profile in the administrator's name. And North Carolina recently became the first state to make it a?crime to cyberbully teachers?by posting doctored photos or false information about them online.

Eric Anderson (no relation to the Indiana town of the same name) is the IT director at the Archbishop Mitty High School in San Jose, Calif. The school issues?iPads to every student, as part of a new program. For Anderson, making sure that kids use the devices appropriately, for educational endeavors, is of utmost importance.

"It is possible to 'lock down' an iPad, but there are limitations to what can be locked down based on what Apple provides," he told TODAY.com on Friday.?Perhaps the situation will get better, though: Anderson notes that under the recently released iOS 6, "it is possible to lock the device into only running a single app."

One of the largest high school districts in Texas is coming under fire for requiring students to wear ID cards embedded with electronic devices that allow them to be located in an instant. School officials say the district was losing almost $2 million a year because of poor attendance. NBC's Janet Shamlian reports.

How VOIP Services are Re-Inventing Our Methods of Communication

Voice Over Internet Protocol, commonly known as VoIP, is a medium of communication for modern businesses. It is among the many communication mediums that have experienced growth in recent years across the globe. VoIP allows your voice (analog signals in VoIP language) to get converted into digital signals, which are then instantly transmitted to the person with whom you are communicating or want to communicate. Of course, Internet facility can only help to transmit digital signals from one place to another.

A reverse mechanism always takes place, just before the digital signals reach the earpiece, which converts the digital signals into sound or audible frequency. The sound allows the recipient to hear what the other person is saying and any other voices (mostly from surroundings) that have been transmitted and converted. VoIP service enables the user to call from their personal computer, regular phone instrument and/or a VoIP phone. All these services from VoIP are also accessible wirelessly by customers worldwide.

VoIP ? Re-shaping communications

The world of today has experienced a revolution in its communicational norms thanks to VoIP. VoIP is undoubtedly one of the most important communication inventions of this century, it will continue to modernize and simplify the communicational barriers faced by the world of today.
It isn?t an exaggeration to say that the contributions of VoIP technology have helped make the earth a global village. The internet has become the central utility in inter-linking different parts of the world.

Ultra advanced technology

The technology offered by VoIP is resourceful, sophisticated and continually advancing. The commitment of VoIP networks to enhance their technology has allowed them to feature three broad ways of servicing. All of the three are crucial for online communications in both audio and video mediums. However, you are not obligated to use all three and may benefit from the one that suits your needs the most.

All VoIP services can be accessed and utilized in any place that has an internet connection. The different parts are as follows:

Analog Telephone Adaptor (ATA): This is a device that allows IP telephony to function. This device is used ten times more than any other IP telephony device, all over the globe. ATA helps the user in getting their regular phone instrument connected to their personal computers or Internet connection so that VoIP can be easily used. This exceptional device is scientifically developed and designed to convert analog signals into digital ones. The best part is that the conversion speed is amazingly fast. The Analog Telephone Adaptor instrument acquires and converts each analog signal, via a regular telephone instrument, into digital data. This digital data is fully able and ready to be transmitted across the internet.

IP Phone: IP Phones are instruments that are quite different from the everyday landline or cordless phones we use for residential and commercial purposes. The major disparity is the use of RJ45 Ethernet connectors, while the normal telephone instruments use RJ11. With IP Phones, the user is allowed to connect his or her phone directly to the router. This type of handset is needed to answer an IP call.

Communicating with other Computers: Enabling communication between two computers is the simplest of services VoIP systems offer. No extra charges are billed to the customer if they call distant places. Only a few essentials are necessary in order to start making and receiving calls. The service is easy to use as it only requires the user to have a headset (with microphone), sound card and obviously a simple Internet connection. It is recommended that you use a fast-speed Internet connection to enjoy the high quality calling experience. However, a medium-paced connection would also work. Slower connections sometimes make you face delays and deliver a decreased level of quality.

VoIP also offers a few add-on services that help you increase your calling experience which are also offered free, such as:

Caller ID
Call Forward
Call Waiting
Conference Calls
Call Transfer

?

Voice Termination ? an insight

Hundreds of communication providers today offer support to their clients through fully-fledge help desk services. Help desk services are mostly available 24/7, but are not yet fully reliable. Clients are often found complaining about no answers from the help desk and even at times users have to wait for long periods as the customer support teams are overloaded. Here is where VoIP termination can be advantageous.

VoIP offers call termination service that consists of a wide range of services like VoIP call, VoIP reseller programs, wholesale carrier and business plans. Having most of these services available from just a single provider which makes it easier and simpler for firms to apply changes.

The magic of VoIP termination

VoIP termination service is fully related to forwarding calls to end users. Truly, this very economical service offers more than it charges as it connects people from different parts of the world (even long distance) in the simplest and quickest way. For example, if you are using VoIP services in India and your Indian VoIP service providers? help desk services are down, you have the ability to contact other help desk offices located in other countries ? not only the ones based in Asia but also ones that are across your respective continent. VoIP termination is a user-friendly Internet phone service? that charges exceptionally low rates for contacting international customer support offices.

Some of VoIP technology offers include:
PC to landline calls, PC to Phone calls and PC to PC calls
Free calls
Instant messenger
Photo sharing
Conference video calls
Call forwarding
Voice mails
Free SMS service

VOIP Termination can greatly improve your business. Not only are VOIP services becoming popular amongst residential users, but ermerging companies are using the wealth of functionality offered at affordable prices to help grow their businesses.
